Sacramento, CA – As the mass separation of children from their parents and incarceration of immigrant families on United States military bases rages on, SEIU California released the following statement from Roxanne Sanchez, President of SEIU California and SEIU Local 1021, calling for a change in leadership in key California districts now represented by Republicans who are standing by President Trump and allowing child cruelty to happen on their watch.

“As we bear witness to innocent children being mercilessly ripped from their mothers’ arms on American and California soil, silence and inaction is not an option. Now more than ever, we need leaders who our community can rally behind and who we know will immediately stand up to such injustices, fight for our American values and diligently work to keep all families together.

“It’s time for a change and to put current California congressional candidates on notice: Jeff Denham, Steve Knight, Mimi Walters and Diane Harkey we see you standing by Trump and supporting tearing children away from their parents.

“SEIU California is proud to endorse leaders who will stand by children, return checks and balances to our country and bring leadership to California communities. That’s why SEIU members are committed to seeing Josh Harder (CD 10), Katie Hill (CD 25), Katie Porter (CD 45) and Mike Levin (CD 49) be elected this November and will work hard to see that children, regardless of origin, will never again be subjected to this abuse.”
